Viimasel 5-6 aastal olen kohanud hulgaliselt Eestis surmanuhtluse taastamist pooldavaid seisukohti. Sestap siinviidatud lugu endale siinses voos koha leidiski.

Kontekstiks:

Historically, punishment has been the universal response to crime and deviance worldwide. Despite the global acceptance of punishment, it would be a grave blunder to view punishment as a uniform response to different types of crime and deviance.

Autorid seavad eesmärgi:

The overall purpose of this study is to understand the etiology of capital punishment in Brazil. The objective of this study is twofold. First, the study aims to assess the extent of public support for the death penalty in Brazil. Second, to examine factors that influence public opinion about the death penalty.

Andmeallikad:

we analyzed individual-level cross-sectional data collected by the American Barometer Survey

Vihjed järeldustest:

Among these observations is the finding that a significant number of Brazilians do support the use of the death penalty as a form of punishment.

… ja erakordselt oluline:

intriguing is the observation that frequency of murders in the neighborhood does not lead to increased support for the death penalty but a sense of neighborhood insecurity does.
