Siinviidatu on üks nendest tekstidest, mis näiliselt ei kuulu ühegi siinse kodulehe fookusteema piiresse, kuid ometi puudutab kõiki. On vist keeruline väita, et eestlaste kujutlusi endist ja teiste kujutlusi eestlastest oleks arukas eirata. Sestap pakuvad antropoloogia valdkonda kuuluvad uuringud väga kasulikku teavet mõistmiseks.
Referring to the condition of in-betweenness, post-socialism becomes increasingly limited as an explanatory device, as most of the regions’ countries are no longer in between socialism and capitalism but have, rather, arrived at a particular kind of capitalism (e.g. Gilbert, 2006, 2013).
As such, post-socialism denotes the particular conditions within which capitalism was established after the Soviet collapse, along with its pre-given moral labels attached to the successes and failures, the winners and losers of the historic processes.
Fookuse ja piiride seadmine:
To study what is revealed by paying attention to the continuing relevance of socialism and post-socialism in a neoliberal reality, I will combine two data sets. One comes from long-term repeated fieldwork visits since 2002 to rural south-eastern Estonia. The other derives from fieldwork among Estonians in Britain since 2012.
Ajad, kohad, sümbolid …
The temporal and spatial markers of the transformation – the West and the East; socialism, post-socialism, capitalism – are not merely places and intervals. These combinations become symbols to associate with, or to distance oneself from.
Sotsiaalsest elust läbipõimumine:
In fact, it is social dispossession in particular that plays a major role in deepening, or even bringing about economic dispossession, stratification and poverty in Estonia and other rapidly neoliberalized contexts. Moreover, it has also reinforced the negation of any potential positive effects of redistributive structures (Annist, 2011, 2015).
People were positioned anew on the evolving hierarchies, and such hierarchies would be established according to a number of new measures of value, including a supposed level of ‘Soviet mentality’. […] The post-socialist framework made possible the adoption of practices and discourses of neoliberalism and propelled the country to take the next steps.
